Lilliardsedge Holiday Park in the Scottish Borders has opened a brand new play destination. Designed specifically for this holiday park by our in-house design team, it’s been built to create experiences that will bring families back time and time again.
The play area centres around a striking 9.5-metre bespoke play unit that took months of planning, collaboration and precision engineering to bring to life. From initial conversations between the Wicksteed team and park owners, through to 3D visuals, crane-assisted installation and a final inspection certificate, every stage was carefully managed to ensure the installation was ready for play before the summer holidays began.
Inclusive design was central to the brief from the outset. Working closely with park owner Stuart and his team, ensured that the finished space would be welcoming and accessible to children of all abilities, something that shaped both the design choices and the equipment selected throughout the process.
The finishing touches were equally considered. A bespoke rubber surfacing design in red, black and yellow was laid across the play area, tying together the colours of the unit and giving the space a cohesive, polished look that completes the overall experience.
On opening day, families from across the local area, not just holiday park guests, arrived to experience the new facility. Lilliardsedge is actively positioning itself as a play destination for the wider community, with the play area designed to drive footfall to the park’s on-site café, bar and facilities.
For Stuart, the experience of working with Wicksteed exceeded expectations. “We have ended up with the exact product we were hoping for. When you stand next to the playground and hold up the photograph that was generated based on what we were looking for, it doesn’t just look similar, it’s virtually identical. Which is actually rare when you’re doing these kinds of projects.”
